I completely forgot about this, until I found the photos on my memory card. One evening my roommate said she got a ticket to Tallinn for only 5 Euros per way. When I heard about the student discount on frank.fi, I immediately went online and booked a trip myself. The only downside was that you either had to pay with a credit card or go to the office one day before departure to pay for the tickets. But since this was during the free week in October this wasn't that big a problem. So we went to Tallinn by ferry. It took about two hours from Helsinki to Estonia. Next time I'll take a book to spend the time with something other than just waiting. You can only check Facebook and so on so many times before it gets boring. It was totally worth booking the tickets so spontaneously. Basically you only need to buy two bottles of whine, and it already pays off to visit Estonia's capital. It's like low-prices-wonderland compared to Helsinki.
It was a pity we only had 4 hours to see the city and spent one of them on a city tour by bus. Next time I'll skip the bus tour and just roam around the city with all it's adorable market booths and inexpensive cafés and restaurants. This place positively looks like a scenery from a fairy tale. You can't really tell if there are actually people living here or if it's just a movie setting. Not only the old city centre is worth a look, the outskirts of Tallinn are also nice to visit. There's lots of beautiful buildings and forests to take walks in, or one can go to the seaside.
On the bus tour we passed by a graveyard located in the forest. I believe it's not even a particularly fenced area. It follows the idea of all life coming out of nature and going back to it in the end - a nice thought.

Our short trip to Tallinn ended with a delicious filled pancake at the legendary pancake house Kompressor. Nomnomnom. I had a pancake filled with tomatoes, feta and pesto. Yummy! I think every pancake cost only 4,90 €. Who can say no to that? Now that I see the photo again, I really want to go back and eat another one! So good!
